We Meet Shelter Point –1 on 1!

Nottingham based Shelter Point are set to release 2 brand new tracks on December 11th.   ‘Glass Into Gold’ and ‘Pale’ continue an impressive run of form from a duo who began their musical story with an EP via influential British imprint Hotflush and have since won fans in Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and Zane Lowe to name a few.
We were lucky enough to catchup with the Nottingham duo for a quick 1 on 1 fire round session.

Who is Shelter Point (three words only)
“Basford Space Programme”

Your music has been described as mellow electronica – with vocal undertones, would you agree with this?

L- Sort of… It’s more vocal driven, still very mellow. We’re forever experimenting with different styles.

R- It’s dream music for waking up. A very special place

Who are you listening to right now?
L – BANKS – Better
R – Devilman – Smoking Ban

BBC Radio’s Annie Mac is a big fan of you guys how does that feel?
L – It’s great to have support from Radio DJ’s and Tastemakers, especially Annie. It’s exciting when we hear that another person has picked up on our music and that they’re feeling it.
R- It was nice when she played us, very humbled to hear it on the radio for the first time.

If you could work with any Singer/Producer or band who would it be and why?
L – Personally I’d love to jam with Snarky Puppy they’re just so tight.
R- I think me and Tim Hecker could get deep with a nice bottle of red.

Pick two Celebrities to be your parents- Who?
L – Uhhh… I’d go for Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek as my parents. I recently watched Malcom in the Middle again.. I just want to go speed walking with Hal.
R- Snoop Dogg and Katy Perry in the California Girls video.

Rate yourself(s) on a scale of 1-10?
L – 6.5… Generous

R- Solid 10

What’s you favourite movie of all time?
L – Big Hero 6 was pretty badass.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life who would you like to see play the lead role as you?
L – Jack Black.

R- Jason Segal

If You could trade places with another person for a week- famous or non famous/living or dead / real or fictional who would it be?
L – I’d switch places with Ollie from Game of Thrones and just before he drives the knife into Jon Snow I’d turn that knife around and push it right into my own face. (Not bitter)

R-Erik Satie and spend all week eating only white foods. I recommend anyone to try the Erik Satie diet

New York or London?
L – New York is somewhere I’d like to visit. I’m not a fan of London.

R- New York one more time. London as much as I have to.

Longest time you’ve gone without- A shower/brushing your teeth?
L – Shower – a few (four) weeks / Brushing teeth – about 3 days. Video games are bad and I should have showered.
R-  A week or two

Any gigs/events planned for this / next year?‘Our City Nottingham’ – 4th Dec – Playing alongside some great local bands like our good friends Kagoule, D.I.D and Indiana who we toured with last year.‘Fresh out the Box (Shoreditch)’ – 14th Jan

We are throwing a few fun parties soon.
Shelter Points early, dense soundscapes hinted at the astral sounds of Boards of Canada and Mount Kimbie, providing the perfect backdrop for Liam Arnold’s haunting vocals. Developing their trademark sound with a series of tactile exercises in melancholy electronica via Sony RCA sub-label Space+Time Records, Shelter Point look set to impress once more. On ‘Glass into Gold’ and ‘Pale,’ the electronic experimenters again provide a beguiling mix of organic and synthetic that stands them apart from their contemporaries.
