Moon Worm was born out of necessity. Jack Schaefer grew up on a farm in rural North Dakota, loving indie rock but having no one to share his passions with. Now based in Minneapolis, his latest work is the “Midnight Audio” EP – with the self-titled lead song as the focus track, available now across all the usual reputable streaming platforms. We grabbed Moon Worm for a 1 on 1 chat.

Your track ‘Midnight Audio’ is a treat! Tell us a bit about that track?
A song about regret and wondering if the choices I made in my life are the right ones. A slow realization that we’re only on this earth for a short amount of time and if you let these feelings controlyou then you can never truly appreciate those around you and the experiences you’ve had.

Tell us about the EP of the same name
Midnight Audio is a collection of music that wasmade during a transitional point in my life. The making of this EP reflects the environment I found myself in when creating these songs. Consistently up into the late hours of the night recording with nobody else in the room but myself until the sun rises, and the world wakes up again. The idea behind Moon Worm has always been existential and the constant pursuit of deeper meaning. Themes surrounding love, uncertainty, and regret clash with a side of me that knows it’s best to just let things fall into place on their own. I am proud of these songs and hope that others can relate and hold onto the feeling I cast into the world.
Who are your musical inspirations?
M83, Tame Impala, Beach House are probably the main ones. Their production methods and ability to inject such raw emotion into their songs has always appealed to me and is why they are sosuccessful. I aim to do the same with Moon Worm tracks as I always want authenticity overeverything.
What embarrassing songs might we find on your Spotify?
Piece of me – Britney Spears Used to love you – Gwen Stefani Poker face – Lady Gaga
Who would be your dream collaboration?
I would love to sit down in the studio with theproducer Dave Fridmann. He’s done great workwith artists like Tame Impala & MGMT. I’d love towatch his process and see how he does things in the studio to make tracks come alive.
What hidden talent(s) do you have?
I played basketball in college before I did anythingmusically. I grew up wanting to make basketball my career in some shape or form, but life takes us in different directions fortunately! I don’t think my skills would hold up like they used to though haha.
Describe your style to us?
Dreamy atmospheres where introspectivelyrics float like clouds. I record all my musicindependently which allows me to pursueartistic freedom and allow my most authenticside to come out. My songs remind people ofa time when they weren’t even born.

Finally- what showcases /events / festivals have you got lined up for 2023?
No events lined up just yet, I recently relocatedcities so I’m focusing on getting my new musicout into the world. The Moon Worm live show isready to go whenever though, working on a visual aspect to the performance as well!
