Native Sessions- Who’s Hot On The Grime Scene?

Manufacturing company Native Instruments are hosting a Native Sessions: BARS takeover at the Barbican Centre, London on April 11th. The software and hardware providers are believers in unveiling the best equipment for music production and DJing, to get creative and innovative results from their clients. The workshop will explore the UK grime and rap scene, with a day packed with UK music talent, treating attendees to sessions with artists from the likes of Steel Banglez, to Ms Banks.
Below are just a few of artists attending the BARS takeover, ranking our top 3 artists!
P Money
P Money began his career in the grime group Fatal Assassins, later taking his own stride and emerging solo in the dubstep scene. Since, he hopped on Lethal Bizzle’s ‘Pow 2011’ hit which featured the highest-ranking grime artists of its time, including Kano and Chipmunk. P Money has left indentations in the UK grime industry with his undoubtedly detailed and unambiguous lyrics. The popular ‘Slang Like This’, which premiered on SBTV back in 2010, has surely made its way to the people of Britain in some form. The heavy grime/Asian infused track received over 2 million YouTube views, proving its catchy tendencies with the familiar public.
DJ Target
DJ Target has been around the world and back, having played in countries like France, and Belgium, to Sweden and America, he is a popular and for sure in demand DJ right now. Previously part of the garage group ‘Pay As You Go’, Target is now a DJ on the BBC Radio 1Xtra show. His work has proved to be a success, having worked with and produced for the likes of Dizzie Rascal, Wiley, Boy Better Know, and Kano, DJ Target is an industry expert with great experience to his name.
3. Jaykae
Jaykae gradually rose to fame, gaining YouTube views in the millions. The Birmingham bred rapper has worked with the likes of Ghetts and London Grammar. His most favoured release so far is ‘Toothache; racking up more than 5 million YouTube views and over 12 million Spotify streams. The most recent release ‘Moscow’ is likely to lead down the same road of success, after three months, its Peaky Blinders inspired music video has already gained over 4 million views. Jaykae’s dark, gritty sounds and lyrics resonate with a much wider audience, no wonder the BBC named the rapper the ‘one to watch in 2017’.
2. Steel Banglez
Steel Banglez has become the heart of UK rap, his name is stamped on numerous UK hits, such as Dave’s ‘No Words’ and ‘Bad’ featuring Not3s, Yungen, Mr Eazi, and MoStack. His immense producing talent has unearthed the flair of rappers Mist and MoStack, having worked with both quite frequently. In light of his recent work, Steel Banglez has defined a lucrative UK sound, rediscovering our love for grime music. There are many projects to come from the London born producer, trademarked by his inventive sounds.
1. Ms Banks
Last year, London grime rapper Ms Banks received a shock as Nicki Minaj posted one of her lyrics on Twitter. Her feature on Lisa Mercedez’ Yu Zimme Remix gained unprecedented attention. Ms Banks recently caught the eye of Vevo, who gave her a spot on Vevo’s dscvr. Having also featured on ‘Uno My Style’ with the ever-rising Stefflon Don, Ms Banks has the potential to stand out as the next big thing in grime. Becoming a standing female figure in the industry, Ms Banks and her urbane yet fierce lyrics have captured the hearts of this generations grime revellers.
