1 on 1 with electro’s Tora – Are they the new RUFUS?

Sitting at over 20 million streams, having played the likes of Glastonbury and Falls Festival, an Australian support slot with RUFUS under their belt and a series of forthcoming UK / European shows in October, Byron Bay’s Tora also announce their debut album Take A Rest.

We chat to Sean from the electronic four piece for a quick 1 on 1 about all things Music!q

Q.Tell us more about your new single ‘EMPYREAN?’.

Back in 2015 while touring Canada, we couldn’t help notice how cold it started getting, as the year was finishing up. We were lucky enough to have some buddy’s in Montreal that let us stay in their apartment while we had some time off.

While in Montreal we quickly noticed hardship of the homeless in such a cold city, this is what grew the inspiration for this track.

Q.Who did you guys grow up listening to and what are you listening to right now?

Personally I grew up listening to artist like John Mayer, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and a bunch in between.

In saying that. Each of us has quite an individual taste in music from each other, which I feel gives Tora its unique sound.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers

At this moment Jo and I are enjoying King Of Limbs – Radiohead, spinning on the turntable.

Artists that we are enjoying at the moment include: Brame, Anderson Paak, Half Moon Run, Kyle Lionhart, sebastian mullaert, Kendrick Lamar, Parcels, Hein Cooper, Crooked Colors.

But the world is full of amazing music and it’s forever being created.

Anderson Paak

Q.We would describe you guys as the love child of RUFUS and the XX would you agree with this?

It wasn’t our first combination to come to mind, but it’s a nice compliment!

Q. If you could work with any Singer/Producer or Rapper on a record who would it be and why?

I think working alongside Kendrick Lamar would be an exciting mix of genres that could work. To pimp a butterfly and untitled had some amazing production and deep narrative. It’s hard to pick just 1….

Kendrick Lamar

Q.Pick two Celebrities to be your parents- Who?

Emma Watson and James Franco

Q.Rate yourself(s) on a scale of 1-10?

6! It’s my favourite number.

Q. Are you an instagrammer or Snap’chatter’er’?

I’m going to have to say Instagram.

Q. If Hollywood made a movie about your life who would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.

Q. If You could trade places with another person for a week- famous or non famous/

It seems everyone is striving for fame or social recognition. But once achieved, it is apparent that it can be overwhelming being in the public eye. I’d choose Jon Snow, experience life on the wall for a week

Q. Whats the longest time you’ve gone without- A shower/brushing your teeth on the road?

Guessing I would say probably 2-3 days.

A warm shower, clean towel and fluffy bed are a real luxury on the road.

Q.  Any gigs/events planned for this / next year?

We start this weekend the 23rd of June at Howler in Melbourne. Following it up with shows Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Freemantle and back at home in Byron.

Then in mid September we are heading over to Europe and UK for some adventures and to share the new live set.

Q. When are you coming to London to play live?

We are playing at The Lexington, In London on the 9th

Last time we were in London it was an amazing night, really looking forward to this show.
