We had the pleasure of attending the BAFTA Television Awards 2023, held at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The prestigious ceremony celebrated the best of British television from 2022, and was expertly hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan.
The night saw several deserving winners take home two BAFTAs each, including Bad Sisters, Derry Girls, I Am Ruth, and The Traitors. Derry Girls was awarded in the Scripted Comedy category, with Siobhán McSweeney, who played Sister Michael, winning the Female Performance in a Comedy Programme award. Lenny Rush was honoured with the Male Performance in a Comedy Programme award for his role in Am I Being Unreasonable?

Kate Winslet was awarded Leading Actress for her compelling performance in I Am Ruth, which also won the Single Drama award. Anne-Marie Duff won Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Grace Williams in Bad Sisters, which won in the Drama Series category. Ben Whishaw won Leading Actor for his role in the autobiographical drama This is Going to Hurt, while Adeel Akhtar took home the Supporting Actor award for his role in the crime drama Sherwood.

In the Entertainment Performance category, Claudia Winkleman won for her work in The Traitors, which won for Reality and Constructed Factual. The Real Mo Farah won in the Single Documentary category, while UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 was awarded for Sports Coverage.
Casualty was honoured with the Soap & Continuing Drama award, while The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit won for Daytime.
The Masked Singer was named Best Entertainment Programme, while Joe Lycett Vs Beckham: Got Your Back at Xmas won in the Features category.
Friday Night Live won the Comedy Entertainment Programme award.

Libby, Are you Home Yet? was named Best Factual Series, while Russia 1985-1999: Traumazone won the Specialist Factual award.
Channel 4 News: Live in Kyiv won the News Coverage award, and Children of the Taliban was honoured in the Current Affairs category.
How to Be a Person won in the Short Form category, while Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was awarded in the International category.
The night’s biggest honours went to Professor David Olusoga OBE, who received the BAFTA Special Award from David Harewood for his outstanding contribution to the television industry and his groundbreaking work in reevaluating how history is portrayed through popular culture.
Overall, the BAFTA Television Awards 2023 was a spectacular event that celebrated the very best of British television. We can not wait to see what next year’s ceremony has in store.
