Former X Factor Matt Terry collaborating with Sean Paul & West End Theatre
We catchup with British Singer / Actor Matt Terry for a quick chat ahead of his Off-West End debut in Madagascar The Musical.
Hi Matt how are you?
So going right back to the beginning you were crowned X Factor winner 2016 does that feel like a life time ago?
To be honest, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. Time flies when you’re having fun for sure but there are moments when it feels like yesterday. Every time I hear my winners single it brings back so many emotions and feelings. I still can’t believe I won!
You also featured on a top 10 UK hit with Enrique Iglesias and Sean Paul what was that experience like?
By far it was the highlight of my year. To be on a track with two iconic artists is life changing. Both Enrique and Sean were very supportive and I will be forever grateful that we worked together! To many more!
So bringing us to the current day then you have just bagged a off-West End theatre role in Madagascar The Musical-how did that come about?
What a lot of people don’t know about me is that I actually trained in musical theatre pre X-Factor. I was almost in Kinky Boots, Thriller Live, The Book Of Mormon etc… So I guess I’ve found myself back at my roots. I’m loving my life and the cast and entire team are just incredible. Anyway to actually answer your question… They asked to see me, so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to go along.. and here I am playing the lead!
Your mentor Nicole Scherzinger- was also in CATS the Musical, are you still in touch and did she have any words of wisdom for you?
That’s right! We are still in touch of course! She’s always there to help and gives great advice! We’re so similar so we get each other!
So we’ve heard you have had some interest from Sony Music Madrid and your sound was very R&B which we loved – is your new material going to continue in this direction?
To be honest right now, I have no idea. You never know what is going to happen in a studio with so much creativity flying around so it could go anywhere! I’m focusing on acting right now but I’m sure I’ll be back in the studio at some point with some new material for everyone to hear!
A couple of easy round questions now :-what are you currently listening to on Spotify?
Ariana Grande non-stop.
-who is your fashion/style inspiration
I love smart casual, so I’m always picking up new shirts and trainers and the occasional hat!
-what is your favourite go to emoji?
The laughing crying face for sure!🤣
-where can we find the tour dates for Madagascar the musical?
