Kanye West Donates $2M & Joins George Floyd Protest In Hometown Chicago

A representative of Kanye West has confirmed, Kanye has donated $2million (£1.5m) to support the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

The donation includes a university fund for George Floyd’s six-year-old daughter, Gianna Floyd. Funding to help pay the legal fees of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, who were both killed in separate incidents earlier this year. And funding to help support black-owned businesses in Chicago and other cities.

The donation comes after protests & riots broke out across the US and around the world, after a video showing the brutal killing of George Floyd whilst in police custody, went viral almost two weeks ago.

Ex-police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinned Floyd to the ground by kneeling down on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, whilst Floyd cried out “I can’t breathe”. Additional video footage revealed two other (now ex) officers also pinning Floyd down, whilst a third officer stood nearby and watched.

Chauvin has been arrested and charged with an upgraded second-degree murder. Whilst the other, three ex-police officers have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

On Thursday night, Kanye West joined protesters in his hometown of Chicago, as they marched against police brutality, racism and demanded justice for the killing of George Floyd.
