With warmer temperatures steadily approaching, many people would normally be traveling to various destinations. However, with the current pandemic stalling plans and forcing us to self-quarantine, we still desire the feeling of a vacation. Now is the time to use our imagination, and create an exotic oasis of our own. A flowy, Kyle x Shahida silk kimono over sweats, a good bottle of wine, scented candles, and the sound of ocean waves can do wonders, for the much needed mental escape.
Kyle x Shahida is a new resort wear brand by Kyle Richards (cast of U.S. reality show, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) and Shahida Clayton, the designer known as the originator of convertible silk caftans and multi-wear skirts. Clayton’s brand, Shahida Parides incorporates her Indian heritage, and is a favorite amongst international celebrities. Long time friends and an advocate for Clayton’s designs, Richards proposed the opportunity to create a new line of contemporary resort wear. After two years, the duo finally unveiled their 45-piece collection, at NYFW 2020. The Spring/Summer line includes chic dresses, rompers, jumpsuits, and various separates. Inspired by their travels to the Serengeti, the tropical and animal designs within the entire collection are custom printed, on silk and satin fabrics.
The debuted collection not only included traditional models, but also a mix of cameo appearances from Richards’ reality show co-stars and various celebrities including, 90’s supermodel – Patricia Hartman, Pose cast member – Dominique Silver, and Canadian singer – Caroline Neron. This is not the first time that we’ve seen reality tv stars use their clout to ignite a new brand. While backstage, Clayton goes on to say that “many designers start a line and it doesn’t come to anything; my goal is to get results. Reality TV is a great platform to showcase these things.” Just as other celebrities like Lisa Vanderpump have been successful launching their brands on television, Richards and Clayton plan on joining the growing circle of entrepreneurs.
