The word legend gets bandied around far too much these days. But in the case of Prince it really does apply. We hear now that just last week his plane had to make an emergency landing after his concert in Illinois (US) so he could be treated for the flu. That illness my yet be linked to his untimely death.
Born Prince Rodgers Nelson in Minneapolis in the year 1957. He came on the scene like a tornado sweeping all before him in the ‘1980’s. With albums ‘1999’ and ‘Purple Rain’ the latter being a monumental global success. ‘Little Red Corvette’ and when ‘Doves Cry’ where immense pieces of art which stirred your very being. Put simply the man was absolutely brilliant and in no time he migrated to a god like symbol.
Selling over 100 million is no joke folk! You can’t calculate the impact he has had on the music world. Pop culture was never the same after he came. The culture shifted and danced to his beat in the most infectious manner. For fashion he was beacon which shined so bright, his way was to standout out amongst the stars.
Prince is the father of so many of today’s top artists and the majority of them don’t even know it. Visually and sonically stunning his ability to craft a song from thin air was and still is utter genius.
The true definition of an artist who actually shunned the limelight and media speculation to enjoy his family and friends over the past 20 years. He was that top bracket star who does a world tour every 5 years and tickets sell out in 5 minutes.
Prince was a showman, conjuring characters at will. His creative expression pushed boundaries other artists couldn’t. Working quickly from song to song a perfectionist who always had a vision of how he wanted his music to be received by his Adoring fans.
Prince we love you and already miss you and it’s only been a matter of hours.
