Following the successful premiere of his latest Prime Video film, “Divorce in the Black,” Tyler Perry has another milestone to celebrate. The multifaceted actor, producer and director has been selected to receive the distinguished Paley Honors Award from The Paley Center for Media.
The Paley Honors gala, one of the season’s most anticipated events, will take place on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. PT at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. This celebration will honor Perry’s impressive and influential career.
Perry expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “My career has been dedicated to uniting people and giving a voice to those often marginalized in media. Media has served as an essential platform for this purpose, and it is a great honor to receive this award from The Paley Center for Media, an organization committed to showcasing the power and importance of media.”
Maureen J. Reidy, President & CEO of The Paley Center for Media, praised Perry’s achievements, saying, “Tyler Perry has firmly established himself as one of the most significant and impactful figures in media through his extensive and celebrated body of work. His continuous efforts to advance our industry and culture with each project make it a privilege to present him with our highest accolade, The Paley Honors Award, on December 4.”
Starting as a playwright, Perry leveraged the success of his first independent film, “The Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” where he introduced the iconic character Madea, into a prolific career that encloses over 2,000 episodes of television and 28 feature films he has written, directed, and produced. In 2019, he extended his influence by opening Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, which has hosted the production of multiple films, including numerous from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The event will also feature The Paley Center’s Paley Honors Tribute Host Committee, comprising some of Perry’s closest companions. The esteemed list includes Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Ari Emanuel, Jon Feltheimer, Whoopi Goldberg, Taraji P. Henson, Matt Johnson, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Gayle King, Debra L. Lee, Mellody Hobson and George Lucas, Scott Mills, The Honorable Nicole Avant and Ted Sarandos, and Kerry Washington.
I’ve watched the film and I will share my thoughts about the film directly with Mr. Perry when I see him.
