We chat: Big Sean – I Decided ⚡️ ⚡️ ⚡️⚡️

The Detroit native returns with his 4th album offering. This album is light in features but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. When the biggest collaboration comes it’s fire bun dem time. Especially when Eminem gives us one of most powerful & forceful efforts to date.

This is a key time for America with the unbelievable Donald Trump in charge of things. Rap music has never needed to be a voice of reason / dissent as now.

The intro is seminal as we find a 45 year old possible Big Sean? Racked with regret and sorrow about a life that whizzed by without realisation of his dreams. It’s truly touching and food for thought in this journey of life.

‘The Light’ samples the sweet sable instrumental ‘Old Time Sake’. it drips with nostalgia as Big Sean gives us that soul food served up with a cool homemade lemonade. The chorus lifts your spirits as he chants “Hell no the boys that bright / Even if they take your life / They can’t take away your Life.” Jeremih balances this song off nicely with his velvet background tones.
First release ‘Bounce Back’ is Sean showing he’s lost none of his brilliant braggadocios abilities. He has a touch of Mr West on this one. His self professed mentor would be proud. big_sean_featured1808 bass booms as Big Sean displays his all around durability on this one.
‘No Favours’ starts off with a menacing sinister back drop that’s finds a searing and intense pitch. Sean ups the tempo with a deliberate decibel change that fits the track perfectly. He spits “Fuck all your comparisons / I’ve been talking to God like he’s my therapist / im African American in America / I ain’t inherit shit but a millionaire under thirty so he must be hearing shit.” This song features Eminem at his most potent as he shows no remorse for anything as he just blitzes this track with vengeance. The highlight is when tears into Anne Coulter ” Fuck Anne Coulter with a clan poster / with lamppost or handle shutter / a damn bolt cutter a can opener….” Donald J Trump gets it in the neck next as Emm goes in spectacularly “Hannibal on lamb no wonder I am so stubborn / I’m anti can’t no government handle a commando / your man don’t want it / Trumps a bitch I’ll make his whole plan go under.” Emm absolutely destroys this track with beautiful artistic brilliance. Definitely the standout track.

‘Jump Out The Window‘ finds Big Sean in nostalgic mode once again as he recollects a lost opportunity with an around the way girl. It’s melodic and easy going. BS also shows his gruff unique vocals also which is pretty cool.

‘Moves’ is Sean doing it for those moneys making ladies working in those gentlemen clubs. It’s 808 heavy as he describes the amazing flexibility and utter fantasy that emanates from the twirkers who work it on a daily basis for that bread.

‘Halfway Off The Balcony’ is a dramatic piece which captures Sean showing real growth and maturity. As he sings “I realised when it comes to girl that chemistry means way more than a anatomy.” Sean also acknowledges that rapping is far than a salary, showing he recognised the power he possesses. He’s complimented by a haunting piano riff that signals the immediacy of the moment.

There are no real fillers on this albums and the interludes work this into a cohesive piece or art.

The Album closes with the encore which is ‘Bigger Than Me‘ this tunes sums up the whole album. The positive vibes just fly off this as Sean sings ” All I wanna Is make the city proud yeah / Wishing all the OG’s can see me know yeah / when you feel something you can’t see / but you know it’s meant to be / you going to realise that this is bigger than me.” The flint chosen choir & Starrah beautiful compliment this spell binding closing track.

Best rap album of the year so far 4/5  ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
