Heather Lawton on her success as a NY based Fashion designer
Gita Cellei meets New York fashion designer in her apartment building in the heart of the financial district, NY.
‘A by chance meeting in a gym changing room lead to this interview. I was drawn to Heather by her smile, beauty and great sense of style. After learning she was a designer, I knew she would make a great article for Distract TV. Her designs have been worn many, Avril Lavigne and Rihanna being just an example.
For me, I love her rebellious leathers, which seems to have a chic order to them. ‘
New York based designer Heather Lawton grew up in Prince Edward Island as a versed equestrian traveling the world for competitions before fully dedicating herself as a fashion designer in 2003. While residing in Canada, Lawton studied fashion design at The International Academy of Design.
In 2006 Lawton relocated to New York to attended classes at Parsons: The New School for Design and Fashion Institute of Technology to further develop her skills as a fashion designer.
In 2011 Lawton launched her first Fall / Winter collection, interspersing fine silk, lace, and cashmere with extraordinary fabrics such as goat hair, Mongolian lamb, quilted crocodile, python, rope, and synthetic filigree mesh.
With every collection Lawton selects rich sources, futuristic cuts, and avant-garde details, combining them in statement pieces that stand alone.
