This season, Fashion Hong Kong’s designers brought rich textures and vibrant colors to a NYFW Fall/Winter 2020 runway, held at Spring Studios. Whether you like color blocking, solid colors or mixed-matched colors and prints, there was a style for everyone. Three designers presented their eye-catching collections; SUN=SEN, Heaven Please and Harrison Wong. Each designer’s aesthetic brings a unique dimension not only to Hong Kong’s fashion palette, but globally, as well.
Designer, Sun Lam’s brand, SUN=SEN is an emerging womenswear line, located in Hong Kong. After receiving an award as a finalist in the iD Dunedin International Emerging Designers’ contest in 2016, she created her label, SUN=SEN. Her garments are a mixture of various fabrics, textures and colors-a bohemian salmagundi of sorts. Her parents’ cultural backgrounds inspired many of her intricate designs. She believes that each piece has its own “spirit and story” to tell via a mixture of social, political and psychological view points.
Fashion Label, Heaven Please never disappoint with their aristocratic-inspired, haute couture designs. Established in 2011, their designs reflect their love of music, art and literature. Bold colors, prints and ruffles, dare the modern woman to feel passionate and dreamy, while rooted in who she is.
Iconic menswear designer, Harrison Wong brought a sophisticated, sporty collection to the runway. Earth tones such as; cobalt blue, army green, rich blacks and browns were presented in color-blocked style in outerwear, light jackets, layered tops and bottoms. Wong’s love of architecture has inspired his design aesthetic, which shined through in this collection. He emerged onto the fashion scene back in 1996, after winning the Hong Kong Young Designer’s Contest and The Grand Prix Contest in Japan. In addition to his own fashion house, Harrison Wong Ltd., he has collaborated with various fashion houses and designed many men’s and women’s collections, which continue to be seen on international runways; Hong Kong, New York, Milan, Sydney, Shanghai and Taipei.
Aveda hair and make-up teams created edgy and unique styles to complete these runway looks. Thank you to the HKTDC (Hong Kong Trade Development Council) and Agentry PR agency for producing such an amazing show.
