Meet Isanna: The Artist With Heavy Bass Melodies and Aaliyah Undertones

As always we are back and once again bringing the freshest new music. This week, Isanna.

Isanna is an American-German producer and artist based in London. While drawing inspiration from her multifaceted background and nomadic tendencies, Isanna is making her mark via a strong visual aesthetic and sound that is all her own. Although her musical background is rooted in structured classical voice training, her self-taught production and song-writing style is free-flowing and honest- we grabbed her for a chat

Q. So to KICK it all off who is ā€™Isannaā€™ā€™? in three words only.

Very Good Kid.

Q. Tell us about your track ā€˜Seasonsā€™?

I wrote and produced the track alone in my bedroom, which is how I make most of my work. At its core, Seasons is a song about the music industry and the parallel that it draws to an oppressive relationship. Itā€™s about feeling watched and smothered. I actually had to keep my voice down while recording because I didnā€™t want to wake up my flat mates haha. Itā€™s pretty DIY but I think it adds an element of anti-surveillance to the song.

Q.Who did you grow up listening to and what are you listening to right now?

As a kid, I listened to a lot of Bon Iver, Banks, and Daughter, which is why I think my lyrics always come out slightly melancholy. Right now, Iā€™m bopping to Banksā€™ new album, Denzel Curry, and Blink 182.

Bon Iver

Q. You have been described at Distract HQ as a mix between ‘Aaliyah’ and ‘Jessie Ware’- would you agree with this?

Thatā€™s really cool! Theyā€™re obviously both incredible artists. I am humbled.

Q. What can we expect from you this Autumn, are you touring?

This Autumn Iā€™m still going to be doing mostly writing and session work for my upcoming debut EP, with a few live shows in London. Iā€™m honestly super excited to get back into performing after a year-long hiatus.

Q. We have a few easy questions for you now- Pick two Celebrities to be your parents- Who?

I love my real parents, shout out Renate + Dieter.

Q. If you had to work with either ‘Kyle Jenner’ or the ‘Kim Kardashian’ on a record who would it be and why?

I donā€™t know if youā€™ve ever heard ā€˜Jam (Turn It Up)ā€ by Kim Kardashian, but itā€™s a BIG tune. The choice is clear.

Kim Wins!

Q. Rate yourself(s) on a scale of 1-10?

Ooh, I like how there is an option for ā€˜yourselvesā€™. All 2 of me are a solid 8.5, Iā€™d say.  Together weā€™re a 16.5.

Q. Red or Orange ( this is not a trick  question…)

Orange has always been my favorite color, besides black. The other day I opened a fortune cookie that said wearing orange would bring me luck, so that really only solidifies it for me.

Q. Who is your style icon?

Dogs with Socks.

Q. If Hollywood made a movie about your life who would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Joaquin Phoenix.

Q.If You could trade places with another person for a week- famous or non famous/living or dead / real or fictional who would it be?

Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein. Sheā€™s the original Goth Girl and just really sick in general. As a female producer, I really look up to the way that she pioneered a path for women a male-dominated publishing industry. It just goes to show how powerful (sad) girls can be.

 Q. Finally where can we find you online- Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat?
