It may have been a cold and rainy week during NYFW’s latest season, but fashion designer, Shun Oyama’s FW2020 collection, entitled, True Beauty brightened the mood on Global Fashion Collective’s runway. Models walked the runway to Oyama’s composition of operatic beats, in a mix of rich earth-toned brocade jackets, coats, dresses and pant jump-suits. The impeccable tailoring was embellished with lush velvet inserts, creating elegant and statuesque silhouettes. Traditional Japanese style Kabuki make-up, accentuated the Eastern elements of the collection.
Four years ago, one would have found Shun Oyama as captain of his high school soccer team. Now the Tokyo born 22 year-old, is changing the fashion game with his brands, Shun Oyama Tokyo and Vision of LiBERTY based out of Los Angeles, CA. After high school, he traveled a bit and realized that he was inspired by European architecture and fashion. So, he moved to the U.S. to study fashion design. During his time as a young fashion designer, he has designed various collections from a Kimono aesthetic, paying homage to his traditional Japanese culture to modern street style fashion. These collections were well received in the U.S. and a year later, he was offered an opportunity to present a new collection at NYFW/FW2020. A dream come true!
His latest hand-sewn collection, True Beauty is his most intricate and unique collection, thus far. A fine balance of English sophistication and Japanese classic style. Designed for the woman whom desires to feel elegant, feminine and confident, while allowing her unique beauty to shine. We look forward to seeing what this innovative designer brings to the fashion scene, next season.
