Off the back of supporting Fifth Harmony on tour we meet US Singer /Songwriter Aleem for our #DTVQ&A

  1. Who is Aleem (three words only)

He’s driven, charismatic and passionate.

  1. Your music has been described as a mix between The Chainsmokers and Fifth Harmony. Would you agree with that?

Yes, I would agree with that comparison as both artists have heavy influences of pop and singer/songwriter vibes in their music with catchy hooks and melodies. This is a model that I base my music around.

  1. Recently you supported Fifth Harmony on their European tour. What was that like and did they have any words of wisdom for you?

Touring with Fifth Harmony was absolutely incredible. To be able to play to thousands of passionate, die hard fans every night all over Europe was an epic experience. Watching the girls perform from behind the scenes was truly a learning experience. They are absolute machines when it comes to performing live and give it all they have every single night. It was an honor to share a stage with such consummate professionals.

  1. You opened up for Fifth Harmony at The O2 – do you get nervous before a show? And what are your pre show rituals?

I wouldn’t say I get nervous, more so anxious. I get excited to hit the stage and feel the rush of adrenaline, but the down time of waiting kills me! I do have a weird pre show ritual. I like to take a few bites of greasy fast food before I hit the stage. It’s a weird ritual that helps warm up my voice 😉 Before I hit the stage, I usually take 5 min of alone time to reflect, pray and envision the show before I go on.

  1. You’re known for your visuals, how important are visuals and image to you?

First impressions are extremely important in anything that you do. Not only do I want to create visual art that can have a lasting impact on a viewer, it’s essential to me to have my visuals and personal image correspond with the type of music and sound I am creating.

  1. Tell us about the #OpenLettersEP?

Open Letters is my debut EP release and I am very excited and honored to share this project with the world. Each song on this project is written about a specific story and person in my life, but the concept of the album was that each song is an “open letter,” in which the listener can choose how they want to interpret the songs and relate to them on a more personal level.

  1. What is your favourite track on the EP?

“We’ll Get This Right.” It’s about a tough relationship that I went through and it’s one of those songs that wrote itself at 2 A.M.

  1. You have over 10k twitter followers – who are your biggest die hard fans? #fanshoutouts

I love all my fans! They’re the reason I am here today. Without their support, none of this is possible. Shout out to the whole #a-team!

  1. Who are you listening to right now?

The new One Republic album, “Oh My My.”

  1. If you could work with any singer/producer or band who would it be and why?

Bruno Mars. He is one of my biggest idols and he creates timeless art. A true visionary when it comes to writing music. It would be an honor to collaborate one day.

  1. Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10

9/10 because I am confident and comfortable in my own skin, but no one is perfect 😉

  1. What’s your favourite movie of all time?

“Men of Honor”

  1. If Hollywood made a movie about your life who would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Shia Labeouf since everyone thinks I look like him.

  1. If you could trade places with another person for a week famous or non famous/living or dead/real or fictional, who would it be?

Probably Justin Bieber. Who wouldn’t want to be the biggest pop star on the planet for a week?

  1. New York, LA or London?

NYC is a magical city all year round. I never get tired of visiting.

Any gigs/events planned for this/next year?

Always! I am gearing up to hit the studio to work on new music this winter and planning to hit the road for a U.S and European tour in early 2017.
