French music scene’s Margaux Avril is a pure piece of electronic pop to keep a close eye on! we were lucky enough to grab the Singer for a quick 1 on 1.
1. describe your sound to us in three words only
ambiguous, solar, melancholic
2. Tell us about the concept behind the song ‘Drifting’-How did it come together?
I worked closely with Fhin and Dennis from the band Postaal. I had a very very rough year, and I was close to loosing myself. We wrote with Dennis and wrote this ambiguous, melancholic but still shiny song – we needed something to float but move forward. I guess it’s the whole point of the song, its mood, and the lyrics…
3. Everyone has their one favourite genre of music- what’s yours and why?
Not everyone apparently! 🙂
Hardest question tbh ! I have this thing with not choosing… I actually do not have a favorite genre of music but have a very eclectic taste in music… I could totally listen to James Blake, Arcade Fire, Alain Souchon (« Chanson française »), Debussy or Rone. But in all these ‘genres’ it’s always moody, well written, it tells a story and have a melancholic twist I always fall for.

4. How would you describe your UK fanbase?
I know it only through datas and statistics, which is pretty boring and frustrating. I’m looking forward to playing here and to meet it IRL!
5. Who is your favourite UK artist at the moment?
Was and still is : James Blake ! He has the perfect alchemy between soul pop and electronic, in-between light & dark.

6. Who do you take inspiration from when making music?
I’d say it’s mostly from the things I’ve been through. The feelings I felt during a breakup, loosing a parent, questions about my path and the way I manage those feelings.
I’m also obviously influenced by artists I grew up listening to, and the songs I listen daily, but I guess I’m mainly inspired by true stories and feelings shared with people around me.
7. could you give three words to describe your Style?
ambiguous, solar, melancholic 😉
8. What’s next for you – new music, tours etc?
There will be other remixes of « Drifting » by artists and producers I really admire, and then new songs.
And we’re getting ready to play them on stage!
9. Finally Where can we find you? (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter etc)
