SXM Festival 2027: Lineup, Dates and Your Guide to the Caribbean Music Festival

Bob Sinclar, MEDUZA, Sasha and Claptone lead the first wave of artists as SXM Festival prepares to celebrate its 10th edition on the Caribbean island of St. Martin.

Last updated:

Imagine spending five days moving between beach parties, open-air dancefloors, intimate villas and late-night DJ sets, all against the backdrop of the Caribbean. That’s the concept behind SXM Festival, which returns to St. Martin from 17–21 March 2027 for its 10th edition.

Unlike traditional music festivals, SXM doesn’t operate from one central site. Instead, the island itself becomes part of the experience, with events spread across its French and Dutch sides. With an international lineup spanning house, techno and electronic music, the 2027 edition is shaping up to be an interesting alternative to the usual European festival circuit.

What Makes SXM Festival Different?

For many festivals, the destination is secondary to the music. At SXM, the location is central to the experience. St. Martin is divided between French and Dutch territories, each offering its own restaurants, nightlife, beaches and local culture.

Across five days, festivalgoers can move between different settings rather than remaining in one designated festival ground. That might mean an afternoon by the sea, a sunset DJ set overlooking the coastline and a late-night party at an entirely different location. It’s a format that encourages visitors to experience more of the island, rather than simply arriving for the music and leaving. The festival also attracts an international audience, with attendees from more than 58 countries represented across recent editions, according to organisers.

Celebrating 10 Editions of SXM Festival

First launched in 2016, SXM has experienced its share of challenges. Hurricane Irma devastated St. Martin in 2017, while the COVID-19 pandemic subsequently interrupted the international festival calendar. Despite those setbacks, SXM has maintained its relationship with the island and its local community.

Festival founder Julian Prince describes the experience as something that extends beyond the performances: “From the beginning, I never wanted SXM to be the biggest festival. I wanted people to go home with stories they would still be telling years later.”

That approach has helped shape SXM’s identity as a destination festival where music, travel and unexpected encounters are closely connected. The 2027 anniversary edition will also celebrate the local businesses, venues and communities that have supported the festival over the years.

SXM Festival takes place on Saint Martin / Sint Maarten, a Caribbean island shared between France and the Netherlands. The festival operates across locations on both sides of the island, with events taking place at beaches, clubs, villas and other outdoor settings.

For international visitors, Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM), on the Dutch side, is the island’s principal international airport. Exact 2027 event locations and individual artist schedules have yet to be confirmed in the announcement.

Getting Around St. Martin During SXM Festival

With festival events spread across different parts of St. Martin, planning transport is an important part of the experience. Taxis and car rentals are available across the island, with the organisers also recommending the SXM Taxi App for booking rides.

Visitors should carry some cash, as many local taxi drivers don’t accept cards. According to the festival’s current travel guidance, general shuttle services are not provided, apart from transport to the Villa Party. If you’re planning to explore independently, car hire is another option, although arranging a designated driver is advisable when attending festival parties.

Tickets, Wristbands and Festival Payments

SXM Festival is an 18+ event, with valid photo identification required for entry. The festival operates a cashless payment system, allowing attendees to use credit cards or load funds onto their festival wristbands.

According to the organisers’ published guidance, ticket holders receive a barcode by email ahead of the event, which is used alongside photo ID to collect their wristband. Visitors should check the official SXM Festival website and FAQ page for the latest 2027 ticket collection arrangements and payment information.

Is SXM Festival Worth Adding to Your 2027 Calendar?

For electronic music fans looking beyond the familiar European festival circuit, SXM offers something a little different. The combination of internationally recognised DJs, Caribbean scenery and a festival format spread across an entire island makes it particularly appealing to travellers who want more than a conventional weekend of performances.

Of course, attending a destination festival requires more planning than buying a ticket to a local event. Flights, accommodation, transport and the final programme will all influence the overall experience and budget. But with its 10th edition approaching, SXM Festival has a compelling proposition: five days of electronic music, with St. Martin providing far more than just the scenery.
