Attic Lights’ Kev Sherry Drops New Solo Single ‘Everything A Mother Could Want’—Complete with a Quirky Comic-Strip Music Video!

Attic Lights (on hiatus) frontman and solo musician (and  political commentator, graphic artist and so much more!) Kev Sherry has  released his new single “Everything A Mother Could Want” along with an accompanying hand drawn ‘comic strip’ video by Kev himself!:

This is  the first single from his forthcoming solo album “Wrath Of Can” – landing in early 2025. The song and video allude, with the wisdom of hindsight, to Kev’s time signed to a major record label with Attic Lights.

Intriguing! We had a chat with Kev to find out more..

Q.So to KICK it all off who is Kev Sherry in three words only?

 Goofy Restless Creative

Q.Who did you grow up listening to and what are you listening to right now?

Grew up listening to: Talking Heads, The Beatles, The Beach Boys

Listening to now: My wife is currently blasting some afrobeat from the other room (Seun Kuti – son of Fela). Today I’ve been listening to the new Laura Marling album (which is beautiful)

Q. If you could work with any other Producer/ Artist on a record who would it be and why?

I’d probably opt for my current favourite artists, Young Fathers – because they have created an utterly unique sound and write great songs and are my current favourite Scottish band ever. Fontaines DC – because they make me feel like I’m 16 again and I’d march in their street army! Sorry – because they are so creative and unique but with great songs that sound like they are about to fall apart but don’t.

Q. Your track “Everything A Mother Could Want” we love, the single! Tell us a bit about it?

It’s about what it’s like having your rock and roll dreams come true, signing to a major record label, and realising that the business element is more important to people than the art. And that the aspirations business has are not the same aspirations as the rebel spirit of rock and roll. Rather a commodified version with patterns of behaviour you are expected to follow. I used the metaphor of a good son deferring to a socially ambitious mother to work through these ideas in the song.

Q. We have a few easy questions for you now- Pick two Celebrities to be your parents- Who?

Larry David and Bel Hooks – it would be amusing, educational, uplifiting, dark, insane, compassionate – all the opposites mixed together.

Q. Rate yourself(s) on a scale of 1-10?

10 (I guess. Though I’m unsure of the criteria. But I’m happy in myself and who I am.) Don’t mean that to sound arrogant in any way. But if you don’t believe in yourself, no-one else truly will.

Q. Who is your style icon?

Probably Neil Young circa 1970. Tattered, loose, messy, thrift-store style.

Q. If Hollywood made a movie about your life who would you like to see play the lead role as you?

My old Auntie used to say I was the spitting image of James McAvoy. (I don’t really see it myself) but I guess he’s about the same age and is Scottish so it would probably be quite an easy job for him. Your welcome, James.

Q.If You could trade places with another person for a week- famous or non famous/living or dead / real or fictional who would it be?

Oooh. Too many to name. I’ll make it easier for myself by choosing a fictional character. Maybe Lyra Silvertongue from the His Dark Materials books. Because her hero’s journey is fantastic and unexpected and genuinely moving for her and for all of us.
